So the vast majority of investment disputes are resolved in what's known as FINRA arbitration. You sign a bunch of documents when you sign up for your account, and one of the fine print issues on there says, "If there's a dispute with your broker or the company he works for, call the broker-dealer. You will go to arbitration." And so FINRA arbitration is sort of supposed to be kind of like court, in the sense that you have attorneys and you have witnesses and you have cross-examination and all those things. But instead of taking place in a courthouse with a judge and a jury, you have arbitrators, typically in a hotel room, kind of conference room. But that's where those disputes take place. There's still an opportunity to get discovery, documents that you need to prove your case, certain motions that happen that are very similar to court. But you're typically in an alternative dispute resolution area, which is known as this FINRA arbitration, and it's something that we practice in regularly and can help investors with.

At The Securities Lawyers, you get hands-on involvement from a partner level attorney. If I'm on your case, there will be associates and paralegals assisting, but I will be the one trying your case, negotiating settlements, and mediating your case. Sean M. Sweeney
